Easy Personalized Photo & Foral Centerpiece

Hubby and I hosted a 75th birthday party for his mom last weekend. It was an outdoor party so I didn't have to do a lot of specialty decorating but I did want the table centerpieces to be fun and personal without a huge cost. So I started hunting through my cupboards for glass containers. I added some photos and some hydrangeas from my yard and created this!

I used a trifle bowl that I already had. I needed two centerpieces so I picked up a second one at Walmart for less than $7. I love this bowl so I didn't mind having two around anyway.

I also used these fish bowls that I had.
I think they can be found for about $2 at Walmart or Michaels.

I cut a strip of heavy parchment paper to fit inside the trifle bowl
and glued several photos of my mom-in-law to it.
Once the glue was dried, I taped and glued it to form a ring.

Some of the photos were black and white and some color
so I converted them all to black and white for a
more classic and cohesive look.

I placed the ring into the trifle bowl.

I cut some paper towels to fit in the bottom of the bowl without touching the paper. I'm not sure this was necessary but I thought it would keep moisture off the photos in case of condensation.

I placed the fish bowl inside the trifle bowl and added some water.

I cut some hydrangeas, bundled them into a bouquet
and secured the stems with a rubber band.

I placed the hydrangeas into the water filled fish bowl
and the centerpiece was finished!

At the end of the evening, I gave the photo rings to my mom-in-law. She and my hubby found another use for them.

Crowns!

Going Green!

One of my designs is going green with Green Craft magazine!

is featured in the Autumn 2012 issue of Green Craft Magazine.

This necklace is so easy to make. I just cut the leather flowers from a pair of sandals, embellished them and then wired them onto vintage pearl strands. You can find out more about this necklace here.

Glass Ornament Vases

Everyone loves decorating with glass Christmas balls. They're fairly inexpensive, come in several colors and patterns, and have the perfect amount of Christmas bling!

Of course, they look great on the tree, but did you ever imagine
they could also make a pretty amazing vase!

Just remove the silver cap, fill with water and add your favorite flower. You will need to add some tiny pebbles or sand to weight the bottoms if you want them to stand alone.

They look pretty cool when grouped together to form a super easy centerpiece.

I filled several glass pieces - that I've picked up from thrift stores - with amber glass rocks. I added LED candles among the rocks of some of them. (Tip - put the candle in upside down so it will be easier to turn it on and off.) Add a flower adorned ornament vase
to each glass piece and your done! SUPER EASY!!
